Purpose.
For so long humans have looked for some kind of answer to existence.
People have looked to satisfaction, knowledge, love… yet we still don’t understand
our existence here on earth. We want there to be meaning in the things we do. These
desires are projected into the culture and the laws that define our reality. I
talk about purpose because it is our experiences that are the collateral for
having been there. People create their experiences with determination through
personal motivations and the reality of their environment. On the social media stage,
“These discussions introduce space for exploration of the connections among
technological structures that compel users to give up control of their contributions,
the policies that dictate ownership of user data, and the nature of composing
online.” Reyman (2013) On social media individuals are giving away personal
content for free. “They are working collaboratively with other users, texts,
and technologies to create content, form networks, and, ultimately, write the
social Web.” Reyman (2013) Individuals sharing experiences in digital formats
is currently documenting the human condition. If this trend continues I wonder
what will it mean to exist with complete transparency? Will this lead to a better
understanding of our brothers and sisters of this world? Will it help us to see
the connectivity between all life on this planet?
I like to think about the first astronauts into space. How
their ability to see earth in a new way for the first time ever. This little
blue planet back dropped by the infinite interstellar horizon. From that vantage
point watching this spectacular event must be mind bending. Also, called the “overview
effect” in space national boundaries vanish and the conflicts that divide people
disappear.
